Bollnäs 2025 –> NEW National Record at 25 meters

Breaking a National Record is very fun especially when you did not know it was happening!

Going into my first competition at 25 meters was already interesting. I had certain expectations due to training the distance for a few weeks so I was already having some ideas of how it would go. BUT the score I thought I needed was another category so I was very surprised when I found out I got the record while believing that I had only tied it.

Warmups were as normal. It took some adjustments with my sight to feel the right spot. As my experience at the distance was only 4 training sessions, it was a learning experience the whole day. Groupings were usually very good – or at least what I expected. The target is 60cm at this distance so that was kinda cool too when I hit a 30 and got to ring the bell 🙂

Second half was ok. I thought I was 2 points under the record the whole time. It was not a problem as I just kept fighting to get those added points.

When the last round was shot, I thought I had tied the record BUT I actually had beat it by 7 points! The old record was set by Christa Bäckman, IF Karlsvik with 553 points back on 2012-01-14. FYI The World Record Masters is 566 and the Senior is held by Petra Ericsson from Sweden with 593!

This is my first Swedish record and hopefully will be the first of many this year. I definitely saw how I could improve…

My day was not over…

I did a second score at 25 meters and it was tiring but fun. 25 is certainly becoming a favourite of mine.

The second score had a better second half 552 (268 & 284). I do not have the scorecard images for that one. ESM 82 & ??

And the weekend kept going…

Sunday Morning was for 18 meters. My shoulders were not quite recovered from 2x on Saturday but I still managed to shoot technically well.

The issue as discovered on Saturday were some arrows did not want to fly straight anymore. It is OK. Those ACEs have done very well these past few years while I have focused on coaching so they are allowed to be retired now. During the ends, some arrows were being replaced with my practise arrows as well as having to change cracking nocks… It was all ok and was very entertaining to see reactions to some of my shots by the onlookers when an arrow flew strangely in to blue a few times.

Big shout out to the club of Bollnäs. They have an awesome atmosphere with lots of history and a real team spirit. Coffee and cookies were greatly appreciated. I will will definitely be back again next year to do 25 meters again.

The biggest issue for my arrows… I have been hitting them while grouping so they are a little damaged. The 25 meter competitions on Saturday had two archers sharing a target so yes that also meant some arrows hitting each other. I am now experimenting with cutting down my barebow arrows and to see what they will do. I am not competing in barebow in Sweden, so those arrows are just sitting in the tube. They are a much stiffer spine X10s at 550 (given to me by another archer) compared to my ACEs at 670. They do fly well when I do barebow with my same recurve bow stripped down… so the next week will be for experiments.
