How Much Time is Necessary?

Time management gurus debate goal setting, priorities, efficiency and getting things done. You can waste a lot of time learning about it.

How much time do you need to do something? How much is enough? How much is too much? If you know you only have a minute to do something, does it change how you do it? If you have all the time in the world, does the thing get done?

One minute challenges:

  • just breathe
  • feel your pulse
  • plank (or butt squeeze if you are travelling –> but be aware of your facial expressions)
  • a hug from someone you care about
  • looking at yourself in a mirror

The trick to making the most of whatever time is available is to do valuable things.

When deciding how to make the most of your day, do not worry about how many minutes are available for each thing. Focus instead of finding the value and then give as much ‘time’ as you can to those things. Do the opposite for the low value items.

Doing nothing sometimes has value. Being super busy can result in nothing, except draining your energy to do the things of value. Even if you do not like the thing that you are doing, there should still be a self declared value. Your health, wealth and happiness are built by spending time doing things of value. Your time is wasted by doing things of low value.

The value of your time is dependant on how you feel about the thing you are doing not the quantity of time given.

Track what you are doing with your time right now. Does is have value? Are you becoming who you know you can be by doing it?

Value is the key to time management.

Do you know what is of value to you?
