Clubs have a lot of used targets sitting around for training sessions. Just shooting on a single target can be good for technique training or scoring, but what if you could create something to have a little bit more fun?
A few years back, I gathered together a bunch of used targets of different sizes from both field and ‘normal’ archery. I cut out different sized centres –> thus some 10 rings, X or out to 8 depending on how big that hole would be. Then I taped 18 of them in a bit of a spiral pattern. The numbered each one 1 –> 18.
Archery Golf is very frustrating and fun!
Choose your shooting line (s), then start at hole #1. How many shots do you need to hit the centre? That becomes your score. Move on to #2. After 18 holes then you have your final score.
Challenges –>
- If you have different levels of archers, then shooting distances can be adapted.
- Multiple shooters can be on the same shooting line, but make them shift positions depending on the hole #.
- Use recurve or compound without permitting sights to be changed between distances.
- Use house beginner bows which makes experienced archers have to think a bit differently.
- Have lefties shoot right handed bows and righties shoot left.
Targets can be replaced as needed but because the hole is already cut out, the wearing of the target is due to misses so they do last a few sessions.
Training can be fun. Just get a little creative with your existing resources and see what happens.
