Tic Tac Toe –> When Archers Decide to Battle for Fun

Taking an old favourite today! No matter the age, archers love going to battle to get three in a row.

The game is simple to do –> make a grid of 40cm or tri-spots. A grid of 9 x 40cm should fit on a normal 122cm target butt. Make sure that each archer has their own colour of arrows.

A game is won by having 3 arrows make a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

To make it more vicious, declare that the arrow needs to hit a certain ring in order for it to count or else the other player can steal the square.

If you have a group of archers at different abilities, then each archer can have their own winning zone/ring for each duel.  The winner of each duel can move to the next grid on the left of the range while the other player stays in the same position. Winner furthest to the left then has to move to the first target grid on the right.

Variations –>

  • when two players battle the same target then closest to centre wins the square.
  • increase grid to 4X4 or 5×5…
  • team play with each member having one arrow
  • draws can be re-matched but then flip a coin so the whole group can keep going
  • all bows can do this
  • use whatever targets you have and create your own rules

This kind of game setting allows clubs to mix archers of various levels and have all bow types play together. It can also be used when having new archers (school groups, stag parties, office team building) as they need something fun during their beginning sessions. I have also found this to be a very sweet game for families that come in and having battles between parent/ child teams. It really helps your club when you can create an atmosphere where the archer can invite family and friends to join in the fun…

Enjoy!
