After the competition is finished, the total score is what gets noted. But have you really dissected your scorecard?
For archers, we see ‘ends’ and the number of 9s and 10s. Maybe we look at the first half verses the second… whatever you have seen before, please grab your latest tally and take a look at something else.
The first column is the highest arrow, followed by the second highest and then the third (or all six when doing outdoor rounds). If you want to challenge yourself then take a look at your column totals…
For my competition in Ekilstuna, you can see that I took totals for my third column and got 83 and 87 (out of a possible 100). In the previous competition, I had 85 and 86. My goal is to get that number above 90 because there should be some 30s in there too..
So how do I make a game out of it, well I track my third arrow. This is very different than the Game of X’s or the Happy Zone.
When training, instead of counting all the arrows, I just total my worst arrow each round. For every arrow that is giving me trouble, I make sure to understand why. Maybe it was technique or a nock… but whatever caused that arrow to not hit where I want it to go then I must figure it out. Anything that comes up can be dealt with on a technique day, but while doing this game, I try to keep the pressure up on doing a good shot every single time.
The image above, is my scoring card for “Every Shot Matters”. If you see me at a competition, then ask for one!
