Mental Coaching or Peak Performance Coaching?

Is there a difference between those two? What do you think?

Here is my explanation… but you do not need to agree.

Mental Coaching has become overly used to cover so many topics that it has lost any real meaning. It used to be describing the ability to concentrate during competition –> what to think and when. Then a whole bunch of emotional stuff got mixed in with mindset and self-talk. A whole industry exists to ‘help’ you improve it as well as to exploit those who are feeling lost.

Peak Performance took over as an edgy pop-culture phrase for those doing high level competition. It sounded good. But again, certain people throw in a lot of stuff to describe what you ought to be thinking at race time.

Since everything got so mixed up, I have found that athletes are more confused then ever. Instead of learning through personal experience, athletes recite words, concepts and ideas which have been created by others to sell books, courses and private sessions.

So now there is no focus because there is no clarity.

I believe that whatever you figure out works for you is allowable. It does not need to fit into any specific category or name. It does not need to be logical or studied intensely by someone who has never even been in the same event as you. Simply put –> if it helps you to achieve what you want then do it because it works.

And that is the answer… Mental Coaching should be about making things clear for you. Peak Performance should be about getting you to do actually do it.

Stop being overwhelmed with everything.

Figure out one thing at a time. Test it. Do it. Then add another thing.

The order is not important. Some things will matter to you more than other things. But no one thing will help if you do not do it.

Clarity.

Efficiency.

Repeat.

Be safe when you try things but do not be afraid. If it doesn’t work then you are building your personal knowledge. If it does work, then you repeat it and create confidence. If you do nothing then you will stay where you are right now.

Be inspired by others but always know this truth…

It is your choice what you do next.
