One of my favourite things is finding books that really resonate with the kind of coaching I do. BUT even better, is when I figure out that some pop psych book is simply not worth reading. This is one of them.
Cognitive Behavioural Theory is a key element to becoming better. I do not believe that all the crappy stuff that many of us have endured previously, has the power to keep blocking us from peak performance. We can do better despite what has happened before.
Our perspectives can shift in a moment so it truly matters what kind of garbage we keep telling ourselves.
As this book was a recommendation, I thought it would be interesting. Thankfully, someone I respect highly and agree with on so many ideas, has prepared a wonderful take down of the book, thus I will not waste any time on it.
Of course, if something is working for you, and helping you to achieve your goals, then by all means keep going. And if you need real help with real injuries, then please do that sooner rather than later.
But if you are like me and really enjoy learning things that will benefit your performances by making you better prepared to handle what comes next, then take a few minutes to watch this video. It is focused on pro-active rather than re-active based actions.
Essentially, no matter what has happened previously, you can start today with exercise, eat real food, sleep and of course stop feeling sorry for yourself. We have all had to deal with something in our past, but the choices of how we keep letting it block us from getting what we want, is the battle for right now. Take tiny actions today. You can do this.
